WHAT we do

Lite Air is a Recreational Flying School based at Aldinga Airfield in South Australia approved and supervised by Recreational Aviation Australia. Our mission is to help you to achieve your Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC), and to allow you to maintain that experience then add additional privileges to take a passenger, fly locally and then further across Australia.

RAAus

Achieving the milestone of your RPC will take a minimum of 20 hours flying of which 5 will be solo under supervision. Most students will take a little longer and this will depend on aptitude, and consistency of training. If there are long gaps in your training, it will tend to require additional training hours and regular lessons will help to alleviate that risk. A fortnightly lesson will suit most students augmented with a few more regular lessons at a couple of key points in the training. Obviously, weather can have an impact on the timeline but there are a few study components that we will help you navigate through on the poor weather days to cover radio, procedures, navigation and human factors etc. Some self-learning will also be a key part of the training in addition to the flying sessions. After the thrill of the first flight when you will have supervised control of the aircraft, the next big step is going solo for the first time and that is usually achieved between 12 and 15 hours flying. Once you have your RPC it only takes 5 hours additional experience to then seek a Passenger endorsement which is usually the privilege to obtain. Navigation can then follow and the chance to embark on longer cross-country adventures then beckon. Training can commence from a young age provided you can reach the controls! However, achieving solo can only take place after attaining 15 years of age. There is no maximum age to start learning to fly! Our aim is to make the journey to your RPC as enjoyable and smooth as possible.

Costs

Before you jump in, a good starting point is a trial introductory lesson which starts at $200 and will allow you to experience what it is like to fly before you commit long-term. We also offer gift cards if you have someone else in mind for this special experience. Still not sure? Give us a call or email and we can make a time to walk you through the training journey in more detail and see the aircraft firsthand. Prior to each flight we discuss what you can expect in the lesson (we also debrief afterwards to reflect on the experience). Apart from sunglasses for the sunlight up above, possibly a cap and sensible shoes there are no uniform requirements. Please note: in addition to the flying training, you will also need to obtain a student membership to join Recreational Aviation Australia (and some textbooks will also be required for the theory components in the longer-term.)
